We’ve all been there: you’re on a conference call, someone else is talking or presenting, you’re on mute and the presenter says something outrageous. You check for the 25th time to make sure your mute button is still activated. For the 25th time, it is. Once comfortably behind the shield of the mute button, you share your thoughts, “that’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard, Rick.”
Followed shortly by, “well that’s because Karen doesn’t know what P&L stands for.”
And finally, “I don’t know, Margo!”
Then someone queues the end of the meeting, you find your inside voice, unmute yourself and sign off.
As a freelance Salesforce consultant, I’ve been working remotely from my home office since 2012, so the COVID-19 pandemic didn’t really change my personal work situation at all. What it did, was bring my fiancee into that experience with me, as we shared a co-working space, giving her a front row seat into what I really think: what I say and do on mute.
These random mutterings or interjections have actually led to some worthwhile conversations between us, though, so I decided to share those lessons with the world.
So that’s what this is: what I say and do on mute. Also known as W.I.S.D.O.M.
What W.I.S.D.O.M. really is, is an opportunity to share my lessons from the Salesforce consulting space unfiltered to others who can benefit from my experience. No, not everything actually gets said on mute, much of this is shared while unmuted, also, but this blog will explore much more of the theoretical and conceptual scenarios that may not be present in actual use cases.
Once again, thank you for taking the time, and hopefully you find something helpful to take back to your Salesforce org.
All the best,
KB
