What are Anchor Saturdays and where did they come from? I share the whole story here, in this blog post.

The Salesforce Anchor

The Salesforce Anchor is a learning platform dedicated to helping Salesforce newcomers more quickly grasp Salesforce concepts, while at the same time providing them with hands-on experiences that can boost their portfolios. In the end, the Salesforce Anchor is leading the charge in defining project-readiness within the Salesforce space.

The Anchor Philosophy

Salesforce newcomers will learn Salesforce concepts better if they’re presented to them in a context with which they are already familiar. The former teacher will learn best in terms of teachers and students, not customers and resellers. The former nurse will learn best in terms of patients, doctors and invoices, not deals quotes and line items.

“Many newcomers to the Salesforce ecosystem have to learn not only the technology, but also the language, or lingo, of business. We at The Salesforce Anchor try to focus on learning the technology by explaining it in a language you already know.”

So we focus, or anchor, all of our learnings in common, everyday scenarios or popular TV references that lets learners quickly get caught up to speed, contextually. Below are examples of some of the Anchor course sessions that are currently available, or scheduled for the near future.

Clark atlanta AThletics Department

(Recorded February 2023)

During this Anchor Saturday live session, you'll configure a custom Salesforce system for tracking the various teams and operations at the Clark Atlanta University athletic department. From tracking recruits, to ensuring compliance, to managing game day operations, this course will graze several processes across college athletics, all of which can be expanded upon in student portfolios.

Love it or list it

(Recorded January 2023)

The producer for the HGTV show Love it or List It needs a custom CRM system to track both listings for the “List it” part of the show, and the renovations and vendors for the “Love it” part. During this session I will walk through a traditional setup of residential real-estate tracking in Salesforce, and also track renovations and expenses using some custom objects.

Schitt’s Creek

(Recorded January 2023)

Ever wonder what Stevie's doing on the computer all day? Well, in this Anchor session we'll imagine that Stevie Budd uses Salesforce for reserving rooms and managing all of the complaints and issues around the Rosebud motel. Also, for a classic Sales Cloud example, we'll imagine that Patrick and David manage the Rose Apothecary's inventory and sales out of Salesforce.

THe North Pole

(Recorded December 2022)

Replicate how Santa Claus fields gift requests from children and then fulfills those requests in the workshop. Eventually, they get wrapped in time for Santa’s sleigh, all using Salesforce Service Cloud and a some Flows.

Ted Lasso

(Recorded September 2022)

Help Keeley Jones track sponsorship deals for the players, and Will the kit man to track player uniforms and performance in Salesforce. This session is heavy on setting up custom objects and relationships, some advanced admin formulas, some Flows and intelligent UX design.

Say Yes to the Dress

Explore the vast world of Salesforce Sales Cloud, and the capabilities of the Salesforce platform by managing the appointment book for a bridal consultant at Kleinfeld’s. From tracking the progress of the entire bridal party, to getting the bride to “say yes”, this session also explores creative design concepts.

Military Family Edition

In this session, set up the processes and Service Cloud features required to bring more transparency to two of the most common processes facing military families everywhere: requesting leave, and changing between bases.

Abbott Elementary Series

(Recorded September 2022)

Imagine Mr. Gregory Eddie (played by Tyler James Williams) is using Salesforce to tighten up protocols at Abbott Elementary with the hopes of becoming the principal. This 3-part series starts with how to build out the core data model for a student and teacher schedules, stops through tracking teacher supply wish lists and other important processes, and ends up with a parent portal for guardians to monitor their children’s grades and also request parent-teacher-conferences.

Local Film Productions

(Recorded August 2022)

During this session, you’ll build an online form using Screen Flows and portal with Experience Cloud for aspiring screenwriters to submit their scripts for consideration. The scripts get routed to the appropriate team by genre.
